If you ask question to Chairul Tanjung, how many companies he owns today? then he would answer: I do not know. Since the acquisition of Bank Mega in 1996, Chairul was very diligent to establish, acquire and take over many companies. In 1998, he founded PT Television Transformation Indonesia (Trans TV) and managed to obtain broadcasting license for it. In 1999, Chairul began to enter the business of stock market by acquiring Indovest Securities and changed its name to PT Mega Capital Indonesia.
In 2000, Chairul's business had no significant progress. But in 2001, he did three actions at once: He acquired Bank Tugu, Trans TV finally went on air, and Chairul officially started his business property by opening Bandung Supermall. Despite already having business in media and property, Chairul did not lose focus on his financial service businesses. In 2003, Chairul established PT Asuransi Jiwa Mega Life (Mega Life Insurance). In 2004, Chairul acquires Mega General Insurance, and change the name of Bank Tugu into Bank Mega Syariah.
Since his 'palace' officially stood in 2005, which is the Bank Mega Tower at Jln. Kapt. Tendean, Mampang, South Jakarta, Chairul's expansion increasingly unstoppable. After spending time almost 10 years to form the basis of his conglomerate and strengthen his financial service business since he founded the Para Multi Finance, Chairul then began to strengthen his other business lines. He was first to strengthen the media business. In 2006, Chairul acquired 50% ownership of TV7 owned by Jacob Oetama's Kompas Gramedia Group, and changed its name to Trans 7. Since then, Chairul was not only have two banks and two insurance companies, but also has two television stations. In the same year, Chairul acquired Coffe Bean franchise, which then has promoted through TransTV.
The next year, 2007, was the year of acquisitions. Since this year, Chairul Tanjung officially own business in almost all fields. Also in this year, at the age of 45, Chairul decided for a little rest and no longer fully care his expansion (because he already has everything?). In this year, Chairul decided to give more attention to the community. Later, Chairul founded CT foundation, and spent about 50% of his time to taking care the foundation.
However, Chairul did not stop expanding, even more aggressive. Latest, Chairul began to expand to the sector of natural resources. Today, the CT Corp. has net assets of approximately U.S.$ 2 billion, and Chairul has plans to triple it in the next year with acquisitions. His vision: To be one of the most reputable leading Conglomerates in Indonesia and a well organized global player in the industries and sectors in which we choose to operate.
